Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes from March 6

Lackey HS Class of 89 Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes
Date: March 6, 2005Location: Gore Bolton’s HouseRecorder: Lisa Creason
Attending: Gore Bolton, Ann Marie Haley, Angie Keesee, Missy Owens, Lisa Creason and Carol Hisel (by telephone)

Topics Discussed:
1. Preliminary work completed:
Through a 3 mos. paid membership to www.classmates.com, Lisa sent a message about a possible 16 year reunion to those who had registered on the site. She has gotten some feedback. On the message she referred folks to the following website http://lackeyhsclassof89.blogspot.com for additional information.
Angie thought she had a paid membership to lackeyhs.com alumni site and would check to see if she could send a similar e-mail.
2. Reunion Theme:
The committee decided upon a family picnic on a Saturday at a park running from about 2 or 3 until 8:00.
3. Date and Location and ticket price:
The committee discussed state and county parks such as Smallwood, Ruth B. Swann or Gilbert Run as the best location. They decided Smallwood was probably the best option due to its proximity to Lackey if in case of bad weather it had pavilions. Ann Marie was tasked to look into facilities, prices and availability. The committee’s first selection of date is Saturday, July 30th. They discussed Saturday, July 9th but worried about that date coinciding with people’s July 4th vacation plans. The group thought that about $50 per person and kids free would be a good price. Lisa’s thought…perhaps any extra money if that happened could go to a scholarship fund at Lackey or something?
4. Food and Drink
Decided to use a caterer and get bushels of crabs. Possible caterers include Maryland Country Caterers (Gore knows), T&Js, Randy’s Ribs. Also thought beer and wine was sufficient (Lisa and Gore discussed vendors) except for perhaps a margarita machine (Angie knew of a vendor).
5. Activities and Games
The committee discussed activities for kids such as a moon bounce, slides, clowns, pony rides, etc. Angie? Said that there was a new party rental place on 925. Talked about getting event insurance in case of accidents. Missy also talked about doing games such as sack races, etc. A good DJ normally knows games. Gore had contact for good DJ.
Also discussed doing a memoriam for those deceased, a scrap book, and a rec room photo service. Angie knew a vendor for the photo service, web-site is www.recroomstudio.com??
6. Contact and Class Contact List
We have the contact list from attendees at the last reunion. Missy will keep the master contact list. She and Lisa will split up the yearbook and gather what we have. Lisa will contact Benita to see what she has. Also discussed putting ads in the Maryland Independent and PennySaver. Angie will get a list of the teachers. The committee discussed mailing out a postcard around the middle of April announcing the event.
7. Reunion Planner
Gore’s sisters’ class used a reunion planner for their reunion. Gore will get in touch with the vendor and discuss specifics. The group agreed that it was worth the cost if still kept the cost per head under $50. The planner might pay for itself in discounts they bring with their vendors.
8. Other:
· Discussed hiring babysitters for the event.
· Gore will look into setting up a shared folder for all reunion related info.

ACTION ITEMS:
· Ann Marie will contact Smallwood State Park about facilities, prices, availability.
· Gore will contact event planner and see about setting up shared folder
· Angie will look into her membership on Lackeyhs.com alumi site. She will find out about the recroomstudio.com and try to get a list of teacher contact info.
· Lisa and Missy will be responsible for getting the mailing list/contact info together. Missy has the beginning of the yearbook, Lisa will work backwards from the end.
Next meeting is tentatively scheduled for mid-April.

16 Year Reunion

Since the Class of 89 didn't have a 15 year reunion, a committee is forming to plan a 16 year event. The committee will be meeting on March 6th to start planning a low-key event for this year. More information to come. If you're interested in participating in the planning of the reunion, please contact Lisa Creason at lcreason1@yahoo.com.
